There are many more or less elaborate ways to detect or even avoid icing on the rotor blades. However, they are usually associated with additional expensive hardware. For plant sites, where the focus is on operational safety (in terms of ice shedding) WKA COMOS provides an algorithm that evaluates the aerodynamic behaviour of the rotor blades in addition to the vibrations behaviour.
The aerodynamic deviation in conjunction with the associated vibration behaviour combined with seasonal conditions allows to make statements regarding icing. COMOS monitors anomalies of the recorded operating parameters associated with abnormalities in the vibration behaviour of the system. This algorithm is used especially in regions with limited accessibility during the winter months.
